In the latter 1970s and early 1980s the mobile phone was a device usually weighing around a couple of kilos designed with the sole purpose of making calls. Now mobile phones were being manufactured with specifications that would rival most desktop PCs of the last decade. However, whilst the hardware and specifications existed to grant a user maximum advantage of her/his phone, the number of applications available were too less and the categories were too general. With sales of these smartphones rocketing, programmers and investors saw the benefits of creating applications that would work specifically on these so-called smartphones.
